Background Check Policy

Coach Screening / Background Check Policy Statement and Process

Statement

Criminal background screening on Coach/Volunteers will be conducted by a screening committee, a subset of the Wesley Chapel Athletic Association (WCAA) Board, in an effort to protect the children who participate in organized sports and related activities associated with WCAA.

WCAA recognizes a Coach/Volunteer as any person who acts on behalf of the WCAA in capacities including, but not limited to, supervision of players at a practice, game or official/unofficial team gathering, board members, concessions operations, and any volunteer work involving the handling of money.

A criminal background screening is mandatory, no exceptions.

Procedure

1. Go to http://www.wcaasports.org/registration

2. Click on the Volunteer Background Check tab

3. Click on the register link

Note: Background checks require a valid credit card or checking account in order to be submitted. The current cost of the background check is $14.95 and is good for 1 year.

The screening committee will review background check information to determine Coach/Volunteer eligibility.  Reasons for being declined the opportunity to be Coach/Volunteer are noted below as part of this policy. In some instances, factors of time may be taken into account when considering eligibility (i.e. length of time since disposition of certain offenses).  The screening committee may request answers to certain questions for the purpose of clarifying facts or explaining extenuating circumstances.

All Coach/Volunteers are required to notify the committee immediately following an arrest or conviction of any of the listed offenses. Any Coach/Volunteer, who while coaching for WCAA is arrested for committing an offense as listed, will immediately forfeit his/her eligibility until disposition by the courts. A conviction of an offense as listed will result in termination of eligibility as stated in the policy.
